What is a Discord bot?

What is Discord?

"Discord is a free voice, video, and text chat app that's used by tens of millions of people ages 13+ to talk and hang out with their communities and friends."

What is a Discord bot?

Discord bots are a type of Discord account which runs by itself, following a set of instructions known as code. A Discord bot can be used to automate tasks, play games, welcome members, moderate content, and much more. The possibilities are endless as to what your Discord bot can do.

Stay safe on Discord

Discord is a platform built for users 13 and older, however, when working on the Discord bot you may use the platform but must follow our rules in order to ensure your safety. What you do on your own time is up to you, but when working at our Dojo, you must follow the rules.

  1. Do not share your login information

  2. Do not join public Discord servers, only join the one you create to test your bot or if you are invited to join by your mentor

  3. Do not talk with people on Discord who are not a part of our Dojo

Rules for making a bot

When making a Discord bot, you have complete control over how the bot functions. This includes images and text. Because of this, you must follow a set of rules to keep your bot's content appropriate for this Dojo session.

  1. Do not use inappropriate language (profanity, vulgarity, etc.)

  2. Do not use inappropriate images

  3. Keep topics PG

What you will be doing

You will be using a programming language named Python to create instructions for a Discord bot. You will be learning the basics of Python while learning how to implement them into making the bot at the same time, allowing you to have a final result which you can share.
