Day 1: Introduction

Today, we will...

  1. Have a group discussion on the topics you would like your site to cover (e.g bird watching, favorite anime, favorite music/artist, etc). The sky's the limit!

  2. Write a bare-bones example website.

Brainstorming

For the group discussion, brainstorm ideas for your website. What is something that you're passionate about?

Common ideas are generally about music, and explaining one's music taste. Other ideas tend to go towards more simpler things, like a website about your favorite sport (where you could show videos of famous athletes, famous events, etc).

Once you get an idea, write it down, and continue brainstorming. After around 5-8 minutes, your mentor will engage everyone in a discussion to make sure that your chosen ideas fit the scope of this project.

Sadly, some ideas just don't work due to how this sushi card is designed. An example would be a blog. Since blogs are hard to implement in HTML/CSS (which is the programming language we will use for our website), you will not be able to make one with this project.

Bare-Bones copy

Once we finish brainstorming, we will write an example website based on a pre-determined topic (bird watching!). This is separate from the topic you decided on in the brainstorming section. This will help you learn the basic concepts of website design, so that you can then apply what you learned to your real website later on.
